An Coláiste / The College

Bunaíodh Coláiste Cholmcille i nGaoth Dobhair i dTir Chonaill  sa bhliain 1951. Ba é an cuspóir a bhi acu an teanga Ghaelach a chaomnú tré daltaí óga a thabhairt chun na Gaeltachta. Léan an traidisiún sin ar aghaidh ó shoin i leith, agus tá an choláiste tréis 100,000 dalta a thabhairt chun na Gaeltachta. Is  é aire an dalta croí-lár na Coláiste ón am ar bunaíodh e go dtí an lá inniu. Is iomaí sin duine ar fud na tíre a thóg an tsuim agus an grá atá acu don teanga ón am ar chaith siad linn i nGaoth Dobhair. Ba bhreá linn bhur gcabhair leis an traidisiun luachmhar seo a choinneáilt beo bríomhar ’sna blianta amach romhainn.

Coláiste Cholmcille was founded in Gweedore, Co. Donegal in the year 1951. Its aim was to preserve the Irish language by bringing young pupils to Gweedore and immersing them in the Gaelic culture of the area. That tradition has continued and to date the College has brought over 100,000 pupils to the Gaeltacht. Proper care of the pupil was the central theme of the College from its foundation and that policy continues to the present day. There are many people throughout Ireland whose devotion and love of the language sprang from that special time they spent in Gweedore. We would appreciate if you would consider attending our courses so that together we will help preserve this precious tradition.

Coláiste Cholmcille is a member of CONCOS, www.concos.ie, Comhchoiste na gColáistí Samhraidh, the federation of Irish Summer Colleges. We have been approved by the Department of Education and Science and the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands and we also adhere to the Constitution and Code of Practice of CONCOS.
